Storm over Brownsea island
Brownsea island in Poole Dorset has been a subject I painted for a long time, since I was the resident artist in the 'crafts village' within the famous Poole Pottery on Poole Quay.
It changes so much through the seasons and time of day... or in a winter's day like this one where everything is almost grey, but still magical.
The sea is always inviting me to paint it wherever and whenever, in fact I think that artists in general love to paint a stormy sea under stormy clouds best.... at least I do.
This painting is done on three canvases that I stuck together for an abstract I had in mind,,,, but didn't work. So after a visit to Poole in the wind and occasional rain I took a photo of this and decided to try it out on these canvases. I think it worked as you can 'feel' the atmosphere of the day in the painting.
